Got the correct Bulbs from Halfords...made no difference
Start car - Driving lights are Bright - bulb warning light on
Turn on pop-ups - warning light goes off driving lights stay bright ( I am sure that they used to dull, although I did clean up contacts.)
If I start car and straight away put pop ups up the warning light acts normal, goes off when I depress brake. ... (Brake you have no friends and you smell lol)
Wierd...but I can live with it

Right, how it SHOULD be:
Start car, pop ups down. sidelights bright, warning light on.
touch brake, warning light off.
Start car, pop ups UP. sidelights dim warning light on.
touch brake, warning light off.
the warning light will NOT go off till you touch the brake. If it does not go off then, you have a failed bulb/crappy contact somewhere. (usually a crappy contact in the sidelight bulb holders. try testing it before you put the holder back in the light unit)
(i used to play a game at night, to see how far I could travel without making the warning light go off i.e. touching the brake. dangerous, but fun!)

I did it in the same situation too!
5 miles from my g/f house, round three roundabouts (one of them a motorway junction), and several junctions and roll to a halt on my drive using the handbrake.
Using the handbrake anywhere other than on the drive is cheating mind!
as is driving at less than 35mph in a derestricted zone.

ha, i am used to the dark. I used to drive home from a dancing, to scare the sleeping occupants in my car to drive all the way home with no lights on.... Must say it was, like now a full, not clouded moon, and i was allone on the road.

Hi Chaps,
Seems a lot of time and money is being spent running around scrappies and motor factors!
I cannot remember how much but they where cheap enough from Volvo. At least you will know you are getting the right ones for the job!
As a matter of interest I was suprised to see a set of wiper blades from Volvo cost £9.52 with my Volvo Owners Club discount.
Regards
Chris

Hi Again,
Just spotted second page and all the other comments. Still in a daze having got out of my sick bed.
Like the brake warning light tales and Volvofox like the no lights!
What we used to do was approach a junction at very high speed without having right of way and turn off our lights to see if anyone was coming! No other lights just plough through. Bit of a bugger is someone with the same idea was coming the other way! Think I would have a heart attack if I tried that trick now, back then it was a great adrenaline rush.
Regards
Chris

Was definately a bad connection on one or both bulbs, either that or an incorrectly inserted bulb. Lights all working correctly and the Bulb warning light is behaving like it should. I can now bgin to play that game.....
Cheers for the advise!!!
