Removing Original Volvo Radio

Post by Ben Harris » Sun Nov 30, 2003 4:13 pm

Can anyone tell me how to go about removing an original Volvo radio? It appears to have two small holes on each side of the facia, and I assume there are some kind of clips behind each of these holes. I want to remove the unit without damaging either it, or my dashboard! :D

You need some keys, Halfords sell them. They should be able to sort you out.

Or ask the local school kids to take it out for you. Should take them 10 secs.

Yeah, you can but them in halfords. Look like a kind of 'V' shaped piece of metal with little ball bearing shaped bits on the end to fit in the holes. I've always just stuck various screwdrivers and things in the holes and pulled it out somehow. Or smash it to pieces.

Hi Ben,

You should as POL says be able to buy them in Halfords cheaply enough. They just push into the holes and are 'U' shaped, one for each side.

If you want to do it now and I usually do, then get four small straight bits of metal or small screwdrivers. They need to be about 1 1/2" long. Basically it pushes a small bit of metal out of the way which is stopping the radio coming out. Very simple really. Time was when you had to sign your name in blood to get these keys!

Regards

Chris

I've got a nice little Pioneer CD head unit (DEH-3300R), which I used to have before I got my mStation Hard Disk MP3 player (which is in my other 480). Unofortunatly though, the Pioneer doesn't have any line-in's on it, so wouldn't work with the MP3 player, so I replaced it with an older Sony cassette head unit I had, which did (I don't need a CD for this one, as everything's on MP3!).

The Pioneer's sat at the bottom of my cupboard for the past year, which is a shame, 'cause it's nicer than the Sony I've been using, and now that I've got another 480, I can put it it to use again! The actual head unit that's in it (Volvo cassette with RDS) is actaully quite good, but as I've got this Pioneer CD unit here (and don't actually own anything on cassette to use in the Volvo one!), is seems a waste not to use it!
