It was a right bastard of a job for me :(

I had to remove the nose cone and then the entire light unit, I wish I could remember how I did it but it was ages ago, if I remember I will let you know

I changed the pass side one on mine the other day, and for ease of job, I'd mark the place where the headlamp unit goes in so as to keep the alignment, then whip out the whole unit.

Pop up the lights and pop-up the lights (manually if the motor is buggered), take out the two nuts at the top behind the lamp, and the bolt at the bottom. On the base of the unit there is a further bolt that has to be removed, then unplug the motor and the whole thing lifts out.

I've put this picture of mine on the 'pop up woes' thread on this section [ul=http://volvo480.northernscum.org.uk/for ... php?t=6882]here[/url]. You might want to take the lamp out for ease of access to hold the spanner onto the bottom one, but I don't think that it is necessary. Not sure about the access to the other side, but I hope this helps.

You were able to remove the battery to get the nut behind that plate of metal, where as I had to remove the drivers side and couldn’t remove anything that was in the way, it took me nearly half an hour to get that one nut off

Just for a laugh, I put off taking the unit out for a while and skinned my knuckles a few times getting the motor out. However I decided to bite the bullet to put it back in, as I didn't want to wreck the brand new motor that I had just bought!

Works like a dream now, with a new motor and gas strut! :D

you loosen the washer tank and lift it away from the front of the car to get room to get into the nuts.
ive done loads now and i can do them in about 40 mins now! :D

Nothing wrong with relais, nothing wrong with motor.

SO ????

I pulled everything off and tryd to get it open by hand ::: no success.

Then I tried with a screwdriver to push against the bar wich is attached to the motor and pop up.(with 2 persons,1 holding a screwdriver in the engine hood opening and one screwdriver against the bar and one person on the light switch in the car.
This bar is divided in 2 ,staying together with a bolt and nut.
They are attached to a round bearing with some sort of nylon casing.

My problem was that there was no more grease in the casings so that the motor got onto a dead point and coulndt move the bar anymore.
(also a lot of dirt in the casings).

When I greased everything they worked as new.
