Cruise Control - how feasible?
Hi all,
So I’ve seen for sale an original 400 series Cruise Control stalk, and it got me thinking whether if the rest of the kit can still be found easily at a (fairly) cheap price? The seller clearly knows what he has, as he’s not exactly selling it for pennies!
I’m told that the stalk itself is by far the rarest part to find for it, and that the relay is shared with the 700 & 900 series Volvos. I also think there was mention that some S/V40 parts will fit as well.
Just testing the water with this one as I’m not TOO bothered about cruise control. If it’s really expensive to do, then I probably won’t bother. Just a nice thing to have at the end of the day.
Thanks!

Yup, even I gave up….
Although I’m looking at going an alternative route

arduion, rapberry Pi or similar?
would be simple enough?
pulse counter from speedo input, or extra input using a hall effect on N/S drive shaft and stepper motor to open/close the throttle?

More a "why reinvent the wheel"?
AP900 is an off the shelf, aftermarket cruise control kit which can be had for a fraction of what people are trying to sell ancient Volvo bits for......

Re: Cruise Control - how feasible?
there's a few variants for dealing with more modern stuff and most places seem to be listing the "modern" versions.
there's basically a motor that's actuating the throttle cable and controlling it.

Just to play devils advocate for a minute....
Even if you could find the parts, would you put your faith in some 30 old solenoid motor that someone found in the back of their damp shed, to keep your throttle open?
Modern cruise control not so bad, because you can tap into the existing "drive-by-wire" throttle housing. The older systems were dual cable though, so i'd be wary about reliability.
Do a search on here and people were scrabbling for CC parts in 2006!
Everytime I use cruise control, I set at 75 and just yo-yo with people who have no clue that their speed fluctuates. I can overtake and subsequently be passed by the same car 20 times when my speed is stable. Becomes annoying after a while.
