Cassette player plays music at lightning speed?

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Cassette player plays music at lightning speed?

Post by Themasteryeti » Fri Sep 02, 2022 11:17 am

Just bought a new cassette so I have some music, stuck it in and it plays it in like super fast so you can't even understand the music, don't suppose anyone knows a fix for this? Cheers 😁

What model radio is it?

It’s sounds like it needs a overhaul!

Looks like either a Philips VC602 or a VC802.

I believe the S models got the 602 as standard so it’s probably that.

Yep, VC602...

Sounds like it needs some attention!

Believe I have one of these spare...

I replaced mine with an exact copy, both were past best and never worked well enough to play cassettes. I got in touch with this guy:

I think, a year or two ago, it was around £125 for repair/service.

Well I've now tried a new cassette and it seems to work fine? Is there certain cassettes that are made differently that won't work with these players? 🤔

If cassettes have ever come into contact with magnets they are ruined…. Could be a possibility perhaps? I remember checking a cassette out of the library (in the 90s ☺️) and the lady ran it over the thing to check it out and it ruined it.

I've never heard of that before!? O.o
Ya learn something new everyday! 😂

I'm pretty positive this shouldn't be the problem as this was a brand new cassette 🤔
