I have believe I have a faulty alternator so I have bought a replacement and according to the haynes manual its a fairly simple job!!!
But I can't for the life of me remove the old alternator, Its free and supposed to be able to 'lift it from the engine bay' that however to impossible because the power steering ridged pipe in the way. I've tried the losen the bolt to the pump, so I can get a bit movement but I can't free the bolt and don't want to snap the head off! Any ideas?

Ah… the Haynes book of lies strikes again.

Power steering pump has to come out to even stand a chance.

You could potentially remove the oil pipe feed? Have a disposable rubber glove to cable tie over the end to prevent fluid loss then top up (or consider a complete change of fluid)

Yeah that was the other option I had it mind will the banjo bolt on the oil pipe feed have single use washers on it? And what power steering fluid does it take? (2.0)

Double check your handbook but my early car took power steering fluid Dexron II (red automatic transmission fluid)

Yep, ATF in these.

Haynes doesn't allow for the different layout of an air con car...

Nigel, do you need a hand?

Hi David.

Thanks for the offer but I'm in too deep to drive I'll get there in the end I'm sure. But if I'm really struggling I might call you for some advice, if that's okay?

Thanks
Nigel
