MOT phobia

As a few of you know last year my celeb almost caught fire during its MOT. This was due to the cooling fan seizing and burning the wiring out! Subsequently discovered the fan was not fuse protected. This year what we thought was a drl bulb failure turned out to be the wiring for the rear number plate lights and although the wiring was smoking the fuse did it’s job thankfully. The strange thing is that Trevor the previous owner told me that the last time he MOT’d the car it refused to start for the first time in his ownership! I have come to the conclusion that my celeb has developed a phobia come MOT time. Strange things these wedges they have a mind of their own.

Certainly adds whole new dimension to worrying about the MOT!!
Do you need to raid my wiring stores again?

Just before corona came, I've sent my wedge for the APK (Algemene Periodieke Keuring = General Periodic Test, our MOT) at a local workshop. My regular 480 mechanic lives almost an hour driving from me, so I thought I'd find the failures first and then allow him to order parts in advance and then give the car a service.
And what happened? It passed without advisory! MOT inspector mumbled something about the high mileage (340,000 km) but otherwise it was a sound car.
And then lockdowns came. And I couldn't have it serviced, so I skipped that bit for a year.
This year I've sent the car to him right away, though I had a hint of a wheel bearing on its way out.
It did turn out to have a knackered wheel bearing. And it was unobtainium at his usual supplier.
Fortunately we've found another (Chinesium) bearing but at least the car passed.
And the coolant system sprung a leak somewhere, which had to be fixed. The bill was topping 500 euro.
Apparently, the car felt neglected. It is happy now, at almost 350,000 km and virtually no rust. Even the airconditioning works.

It's because of lockdown I'm communicating more in English than in my own language
(and have watched too many HubNut videos on YouTube I guess)

Update. Because the electrical glitches were solved the celeb decided to have a broken front spring!!! Now has a years ticket.Am looking forward to fun and games next March.

. Still, congratulations on another year's ticket.
I am pleased to announce that Hutton Brothers have just been on the phone to advise that my green GT, Lily, just sailed through her MOT again with no issues or concerns whatsoever.
Having replaced the centre exhaust section and the handbrake cables, I had dealt with the only issues I was aware of so I believed she should be fine...but - let's face it - we are all well aware that you never ever know what curved balls these cars will throw at us, especially when the MOT is the only time (other than having new tyres fitted or air-con re-gassed) that someone other than me gets their hands on Lily.
So that is at least 2 happy owners in North Yorkshire!
