CeDric decided that a working interior fan was not really needed now that the weather has turned cold.
I traced the problem to a 'dicky relay' or possibly one of the push buttons. deffo 'mechanical' as a slight tap would get the realy to toggle.
the one circled 'should' pull in when ignition is turned on (should) but it didn't always
probably no image as it has added the 'googleuser' to header
if folk can see one or both please advise, google seems 'inconsistent' . .. . .

any bright ideas?
I can do a 'how to remove' if it helps on the removal, but as to fixing it well I'm stumped so as the AC is already goosed I have just bypassed the whole thing and the fan is now simply controlled by the switch.

Re: AC fancy push button controller
Thanks guys,
Kind of what I expected, probably more trouble than worth it given that the AC is 'probably' MT and /or other issues so as we only get one (or two) days per year of 'hot weather' will just leave alone as it's the better halfs 'run-about'
PS you don't need to remove all the screws on the FAQ, as I discovered, only the 'self tappers', brass coloured not the wee bolts.
it is also possible to undo the BIG self tapper from under the slider withour removing the slider (just )

Re: AC fancy push button controller
I'd whip it out and repair it; I found that I was losing all fan speeds intermittently on the blue turbo. Occasionally tapping the buttons or random potholes would sometimes revive it. AC Max would do the job, but as it also shuts the fresh air flap, it was no good for demisting.
Pulled it out, resoldered and it's been great ever since.

And be careful when you open not to loose any seals from the rear connector. The E-reg had been worked on before and had a hissing dashboard for ages until I worked out that someone had dropped the seals when they opened it up!
