Hello,

Does anyone has the pinout/wiring diagram/schematics of a CEM Mark 1 (5 DK 004 696-01) for a 1990 Volvo 480?
The electrical diagram that is avaiable to download only have the CEM Mark 3, and I would like the diagram for the mark 1, because my CEM has some problems and I would like to repair it.

Thanks :)

Though I have a MY 1995 480 with a CEM-III, I have a friend with a MY 1989 480 ES who is equally keen with electronics as I am, and he has more or less reverse engineered the CEM-01 pinout and put it in a Google doc we are both maintaining. Very handy, where there's an internet connection, I have all pinouts in my pocket! (Ha! I have fooled you lot into thinking I am a walking 480 Wikipedia )
Trouble is, though we are both fluent in English, we haven't got round to translating it, so it has been translated in a rush. Sorry about the formatting.

Thank you for you awnser brinkie.

Do you know what is RM bridge in the board (images bellow)? Mine has a pin broke. Should I solder it?

I also would like to know if it is possible to test the board in workbench?

Thanks

You can test in the car: http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/volvo48 ... lfdiagnose
James

that is a VERY useful link :hopping:

It is, but I think you'll find that on a post 91 car (which will have a CEM IIl ) the testing of the CEM, like everything else, is done via the diagnostic box under the bonnet...I need to double check that though!

That said, the principle is exactly the same.

Does anyone know the reference and where to buy of the relays that are on the CEM.
I would like to buy the two types for spares.

Thanks

The big ones I have yet to find out where they can be bought separately, the small ones are available for a few quid each through sellers like Conrad.

I think I know what the small strip of metal does which you have pointed out: it is probably a current measuring resistor for the flasher. If the flasher IC detects too little current, the flasher assumes a blown bulb and doubles the flashing frequency. Without it, the flasher won't work, i.e. your Volvo will be turned into a BMW. :P

are the big ones not the same as fitted to a 'plug-in' relay, obviusly without the spades on the base??

so if really needed they could be 'hard wired' and 'potted' or use heat shrink around the wires?

If the pinout matches, sure, why not. You only have to be sure the relay can cope with the current.
