CEM in paint oven?

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

CEM in paint oven?

Post by MisterH » Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:30 pm

'Evening All

When I was reading in the user manual, it said that it was best to remove the CEM and engine management unit from the car before it goes into a paint oven. Does anyone have any further information regarding this, as my car really needs to be touched up professionally, should I worry about this?

it did not say it was necessary, but it did say that it was safer

Many thanks
Ben

With a modern water based paint shop, your car is normally “baked” at 60 degrees for half an hour.

Can’t honestly see that doing anything but good for a typically damp 480!

Agreed. However, if you want to remove the CEM and ECU, rest assured tat each takes ‎about 5 minutes to remove. (Turbo owners have a 3rd computer)

Thanks all, if it is a metallic paint, such as my Arctic Blue, will it still be water based and at 60 Deg?

Pretty much every paint shop now is water based; it’s all about the environment now.
