starting but not running,

sorry for being a bit lazy here, somebody just to confirm my logic (two litre)

recently car will fire up on the button , but not keep running, swapped over a couple of idle valves, no difference, needs just a wee tickle of throttle pedal to keep it running, but SWAMBO's idea of a wee tickle is an idle speed of 1500+ rpm!!

I know that the idle valve has a default opening but is it that which is used at starting ?? and then the ECU quickly swaps it around a few degrees to get the modulating postion?

I reckon it could well be the control under the throttle inlet /butterfly, or maybe the wiring to the idle valve, what should it do and I could put a volt meter onto the valve to confirm/deny.

just jury rigged a small loop of steel cable to give me a 'false' throttle stop on the main butterfly just for next few days to see if improves it any

Could it be a MAP Sensor? I do not know much about the 2.0, but when I got my '88 car it would start and then cut out, when a new MAP Was fitted it started first time. Could that be it?

good call

I also have one of those spare and an easier swap than the throttle switch!

I remember when teh wee pipe split the car would run OK , but on throttle lift off at a roundabout it would die unless quick with the gear change .. ..

Worth trying simpler things first like the MAP - any of those items could be your culprit - but my money is on the throttle position sensor ;) . Silly question probably, but is the throttle housing clean inside?
