Fuel Pump

Post by eye of ra » Thu Sep 21, 2017 6:34 pm

I need to move my car out of the garage temporarily so put the dash wiring loom back in and she turns over however I can’t get the fuel pump to run.

Having done some research the fuel pump should run for a few seconds on position 2 then stop and wait for position 3 then start again, can anyone confirm?

Assuming I am correct this is controlled by the ECU (on my car on pin 6, it does vary) however it’s not providing the required earth does anyone know how the ECU decides when to trigger the fuel pump relay?

The fuel pump and relay work when an earth is applied to pin 6 so unless my ECU has died since removing the loom for the restoration I’m missing something. It does trigger the B2 relay and others just not B12.

yes thats what ours does, can't comment on the pin-out to relay, but I have run it in 'hot wire' mode previously

She lives :hopping:

After a bit more investigation I can confirm what we all know, different models do different things.

The fuel pump on my B18ED with a Fenix 3.2 does not run till the ECU gets a signal from the flywheel sensor.

So in key position 2 only B2 should close.

On position 3 the starter motor turns the engine over, the flywheel sensor sends a signal to the ECU, an earth is then put on pin 6, B12 is closed and the fuel pump runs.

My problem was that the battery was so flat it could not turn the engine so no signal was sent. It had enough charge on position 2 to operate B2, enough to run the fuel pump when I manually earthed B12 and enough on position 3 to make the relay in the starter motor click but not enough to turn the engine.

Used a jump pack, pump ran and she started.
