Cigarette Lighter

Post by frenchfries » Mon Sep 04, 2017 11:43 am

Hi all

I have directed my OCD towards replacing the light behind the cigarette lighter. I have not worked out how to remove the aforementioned yet, can you help?

Best

Getting to the bulb is quite easy.

Replace it with this

Apologies

I was meant to ask how to remove the assembly, not sure if the consoles has to go or not. I do have those bulbs already though :)

Ha! I've done that yesterday with the help of a friend.

Here is his video explanation: https://youtu.be/ACnicj5C1QE

It requires a bit of fumbling how to get the light back in place once you have replaced it.

Take off the ashtray. Unscrew the one at the bottom. Remove cube on top of the ashtray (or equalizer if you happen to have one) et voilá. The bulb holder is a black plastic brick, replace the bulb. That side beam light is perfect as it heads one beam towards the ashtray light and the other to the cigarette lighter optic.

Theese ones, on the other side, won't work

LEDs are nice but I prefer the old light bulbs out of nostalgia ;)
Also, I can buy more than 10 regular light bulbs for the price of that LED and the previous ones have lasted over 10 years, maybe have never been replaced at all before I did that (and my car has done over 200,000 miles).

plus LED's can get fussy about dimming (do people still use their dash dimmers these days?)
