That does it !! I'm putting bull bars round ours and locking them in the safe at night....................
Potentially, 380 euros per rear cluster means any 480 with a good pair is worth a minimum of £760 now it's virtually 1 euro to the pound.

 perhaps we should review all yesterday's conversations based on an assessment of the rear lights on all those cars on ebay!

The Paris Blue 480 which my dad is currently driving has very poor rear wheel arches and virtually nonexistent rear bumper support.
However the right rear light cluster is as good as new, the left one needs polishing but is good otherwise, and the front blinkers are in similar condition and so are the clear fog lights. For these parts alone, the car is worth at least €500

Many of you have my home address but my Vase Green 480 with new light clusters all around is stored somewhere else, behind locked gates with CCTV.

Has anybody ever thought of sending a letter to Volvo signed by every single genuine owner, begging (I think this is pretty much the correct word here) them to remake light clusters or at least provide us with the blue prints or whatever another company would need in order to re manufacture them?

There will be a time when ALL clusters will be beyond repair and the 480 will just no longer be road legal.

Personally, I was the last one to buy a rear-side one from VLV in France but still looking for a left-side one.

Volvo Sweden wants the 400 series to go to oblivion. The poor build quality of the Dutch Volvo's and the Renault running gear makes them think those were no real Volvo's.

About the light clusters, they have been made by Hella (though a source within Nedcar told me it was actually Valeo who produced them, I haven't verified that yet). In 2007, 10 years after the end of 400 series production, the last lot has been produced and subsequently the molds have been destroyed.

can't be that bad, we are all still running them. . . .

although i accept 'not a real volvo' but then again the C30 / S40 / V50 were ford in drag, previous incarnation of S40 / V50 was a Mitsubishi?

regarding HELLA
if rear clusters do eventually 'go left' then we might have to accept using a flat section of acrylic with correct profile covering stand-alone lamp holders ? ? ?

and thinking aloud, I have a silicone moulding kit that allows the copy of any item to be made, then simply cast the covers in a slightly smoked 'clear' resin casting ? ? ? might be worth a trial if anybody has TWO spare lens cover to make masters from?
