Which relay goes here? (picture)

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Can't access your picture, sorry.

However, I can say that not all the spaces in the relay ox, not even all with connections underneath, actually have relays in them on all models.

The electronic diagrams are available on the main site including the relay box layouts.

According to the relay diagram, bulb failure detector front lights...

Nothing in it in my 1994 GT but it might apply on an early model I guess (I checked the pre-1992 diagram)

Sorry - saw that in your first post as soon as I responded!

I have personally never seen anything in that relay socket, but the later cars did not have the full range of bulb failure warnings that the earlier ones did.

May be someone on here with an older model themselves (James perhaps?) will have a better idea.

According to a diagram which I got from the forum relay "L" appears to be Bulb failure Detector, Front Bulbs".

If there's no relay in there an all things electrical are functioning in the car, I wouldn't worry about it.
I haven't checked the diagrams but as fas as I know, several features were deleted in model year 1989 (starting August 1988) and this could very well be one of them.

It is for front light bulb failure, it was removed leaving just the rears from memory around 1991.

There was a tread with a picture but Photobucket strikes again and at the moment I can’t find the original.

I had to remove it when I fitted LED DRL and jumper some of the contacts so the rear would still work (again from memory and it was a few years ago) if that was the case your bulb failure lamp won’t be working at all, I’ll try and find/remember the details.

Couldn’t find original so dug out the relay and took a new picture.

Also my memory was not entirely correct.

As stated the early cars bulb failure worked on the front and back lights however without the relay the front lights monitored by the relay won’t work at all (the reason for the jumpers when I installed LED DRL), the rears will work as they should including bulb failure.

For info.

Very early cars bulb failure worked on the DRL and Dipped Beam (and the rears but not from that relay).
Early cars Dipped Beam was removed.
Later cars front failure was removed altogether leaving Tail Lights and Brake Lights.
Even later cars Tail Light failure was removed leaving just the Brake Lights.

I would guess that yours falls into “early car” or you would have no dipped beam. It may have been removed by someone who didn’t like DRL.

If you can’t find a relay and want DRL copy the jumpers above.

I cannot check right now but I don't think I have the relay on my 1993 (L relay).

NB: I use Postimage by the way.

1993 will have the Tail and brake lights only so no relay.

Dipped beam and DRL was only on cars upto 529392 (which according to the VIN Reader page would be sometime in 1998).

Front lights were removed completely sometime between 1991and 1992.

1994 saw the Tail Lights go leaving just the Brake lights.
