My mistake. Having replaced the DLR bulb with a single filament bulb (I had nothing else to replace the broken bulb), I only realized yesterday that the pop up headlights are not coming up. As soon as the correct bulb is delivered (BAZ15D) I will let you know if they work again.

You can rise them manually using a white knob at the end of the popup motor. Just be patient, it takes some time

and once you have wound them up, don't shut the bonnet or they will pop back down !

Weird thing is they worked for a minute or so then suddenly kept going up and down but not together! That was a bit funny but now they will not rise again.

Sounds to me as if you are getting caught in a circle of problems here!
First off, as you have discovered, it must be the right sort of bulb in terms of its off-set pins - without that correctly in place the headlight on that side will not pop-up.
If the fittings are as badly corroded as you describe (and the pictures of the heat damage to the clusters suggests they are bad!) then make sure they are getting a clean contact to the bulb base.
Headlamps can be manually raised by the winder on the back - as others have said be patient and don't close the bonnet again until job done!
If the headlamps are playing up, not in sync etc, that could be down to the relay. I know from your other thread you have been in the relay box so have you perhaps slightly dislodged the headlamp relay (the tall one)? There is info on here about which connections to make across the socket for that relay to establish whether or not it is at fault.

Here is what I did:
Manually raised the headlamp on the driver side enough to have access to the screw
Removed the DLR only to notice that it was the wrong one
Swore a bit
Replaced the DLR
Lowered the head lamp manually
Swore a bit more
Manually raised the headlamp on the other side
Removed the DLR
Replaced the buld
CLOSED THE BONNET but did not lower the headlamp
Headlamp closed itself
Tried to raise them and then they started playing up
Swore a lot
Now nothing, They were working fine until I changed the buld, I am tempted to think this is a problem with a bulb connector

Hmmm...
Assuming headlights were switched off then they should close when you have ignition on and shut the bonnet. So must have made circuit through pins of DLR to do that.
Have you checked you haven't starting blowing any fuses in doing all you have done?

Problem solved I think.
Skip is picky when it comes to bulbs. I bought 2 and my problems stopped when I tried the second new buld. Tried again with the first new bulb and the same problem occured.
Have you heard of that before?

Depends who you talk to - some will say that the specific brand of bulb will either enable or prevent the pop ups from functioning correctly, others will say that they are completely unrelated.
So yes, it's a known phenomenon, the explanation, however, is unclear...

Yes - Morwenna, my Celebration that I had for 6 years, was picky about DLR bulbs. If I tried using Halfords bulbs, for example, she would invariably blow a new one straight away. For that reason I settled to only ever getting the bulbs from Volvo. Haven't had to replace any on the GT yet but - assuming they remain available, of course! - that is where I shall be going for mine when the time comes.frenchfries wrote:Problem solved I think.

Glad it's sorted, anyway, and is just an example of another 480 quirk striking back!
