I have a power supply unit of DC 12V (or 13,8V) up to 5 amps/ 7amps peak available, would it just be a matter of making the connections and see if I get response?
a quick run off a car battery will do no harm BUT as the seal is 'lubricated' / 'cooled' by water dont run too long.

to check if leak tight you could attach a long length of garden hose to it and fill with water and top of hose on second floor will give a decent 'static-head'

Haynes manual keeps reffering to an elusive cylinder block drain plug "located below the inlet manifold near the oil pressure switch"...?

I may have found it!

I suspect this is the one:

Picture was taken from above with cell phone with screen facing bulkead/camera facing back of the engine.

There seems to be a plastic or rubber washer between the plug and the block, so surely this can't be used for oil, right?

Thanks Alan, I will give it a try.

I made a little experiment today:

Suspended the pump, attached some hoses (one connected to shower  )and let the water run through for a few minutes.

When I turn the power on there is a small boost in water flow.

So, pump is working and apparently there are no leaks visible! :hopping:

Ok, new ring is in place and cleaned surfaces mate perfectly.

I know this is an old post, but do you happen to know the o-ring size you used? The aux water pump on my 1993 turbo is leaking in the same spot yours is and I'd like to order a replacement to have it on hand before taking it out.

Thanks!
