Volvo 480 Club Europe

Further to me frying my ECU Norm57 very kindly supplied me with a replacement from a celebration he's breaking.
As you can see below mine has got a different number again from two listed by GlasgowJim in the other thread.

Mines on the left and starts with 101 and the celeb is 111. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable (same engine after all) or is it an absolute no no to try.
I really don't want to do any further damage.
Does anyone have the correct one?

I can not advise you I tried to look up more info but I drew a blank. Can only suggest you match them by the year of manufacture before trying.

there are two different versions of the 2l engine (B20F). The first one is the famous 'oil eater' (around 1l per 1.000km) from model year '93 with engine code B20F-116/118 (116 = manual gearbox; 118 = automatic one). For model year '94 and '95 - from chassis number 586300 on - the engine was modified including other pistons, compression ratio, camshaft and therefore also a different ECU. The newer engines have motor code B20F-208/209 (208 = manual; 209 = automatic version). By the way: I don't know why Volvo used different engine codes for manual and automatic transmission, especially as there is no difference on the engines and they haven't differentiated it @ the earlier engines too.

So ... hoping that this clarifies the question: I think 472948/03 (S111...) was used in combination with the new model and should be mounted in your '95 celebration while the other one was used in '93. I can clarify which one belongs to which engine if necessary, taking a look at my ECU, as I've replaced my '93 engine with a newer one last year including the matching ECU. The Oil consumption was annoying.

It's for the german market, so maybe there are some differences to the UK market ...

P.S.: according to Vadis there is a third ECU version for leaded fuel.

Hi graham dont know if it helps but i have spoken to the guy in the parts dept at harrats on scotthall rd he is pretty knowlegable and helpful with part numbers only prob cant remember his name!! Sorry

I agree with Norm about going to the Volvo dealer. If you really want to know you simply need‎ access to the parts catalogue with its effectivity codes to tie up part numbers to chassis numbers.

Go down to the parts dept. with the boxes‎ (probably best not to phone, just present yourself!) and your VIN number.

There is a parts catalogue on the main forum site as a pdf download. Maybe you could have a go yourself? It's about a 60mb download. ‎

Well you knew it would have to be complicated didn't you!

In the end a google search of the numbers threw up a company selling an exact match for a not unreasonable £25 plus postage. That should be with me tomorrow DHL willing. At this point I'm inclined to play it safe!

Norm has kindly supplied me with a cluster which is an exact match for mine.
Hopefully I can throw that in and get driving with incorrect mileage or do a transplant straight away or at a later date. I'm not sure about 'clocking'. The one thread I've found talks about winding on and not back as I require. It may not be possible to wind back for obvious reasons.

Can i echo James' sentiments and add my thanks (particularly to Norman). I very much feel like the village idiot having made such stupid error. Particularly at a time I could with more problems like a hole in the head!

That will end without any new information, as the Volvo part numbers - the only thing that is deposited in Vadis / Vida - are not printed on the B20F ECU's.

Ch.-No. 586300 was the first one from model year '94 I've mentioned before.
