The odometer is probably a worn cog . you can get replacements.

The info centre bulb is probably blown.

this is a quote from Harriet....

the info bulb just a standard R64124 B10D Halogen PC Base Panel Bulb 12V 5W Black Base
that cost around 2 pounds

Thanks for the reply Jim. Manage to fix the dim info centre forgot about the brightness adjuster  ha. After searching the forums the other night for hours I saw about the cog so this morning I have taken the dash out and the speedo instruments, I took the odometer out and the blue cog seemed fine I turned it in place and could not see any teeth missing and it moved the numbers around as supposed to. I out all the wiring back on and the dash back on and seemed to be working. Took it for a spin and after half a mile stopped working again. Do you think it could be another cog or a wiring issue? Also which cable that goes into the back sends the information to it as I think the grey one is a bit loose? Thanks steve

The plug nearest the drivers door if a RHD version is the one that has the speedo feed.

trying reaching up behind the dash board after everything assembled and press it in a bitty. it is 'just' within reach if you lie with your napper under the pedals and use left hand to push plug in and right hand to keep inst panel in place :-)

been there 'quite' often  sometimes fixes it sometimes not

Mile counter not working

Post by ormolu » Fri Jan 15, 2016 9:31 am

I have just bought my 4th Volvo 480. This one is a 1995 Celebration.

When driving it home I noticed that the mile counter and trip recorder were not working.

The recent MoT certificate confirms that the mile counter was working until very recently.

Please could you describe in a little more detail exactly what I am looking for.

Is it a multi-way plug? How do I find it? How do I recognise it?

The cogwheel inside the speedometer unit is probably broken. There's a lot of documentation on this forum on where to obtain a new cogwheel and how to replace it. Good luck. :)
