Heated seats

Post by Flying Dutchman » Fri Nov 28, 2014 10:52 pm

Guess what? My heated seats doesn't work.

I press the buttons and they lit, but no heat comes on. Is there a common fault to check, or how do I fix them?

Cheap n easy wouldn't hurt either. Thanks in advance! :)

both? or just the drivers one?

drivers side gets more usage and packs in earlier than the other side.

easy enough to see if power at switch then at connector under the seat, I had power all the way to the seat so element bust?

i had a look at a repair but seems to by between the foam and cloth, all of which glued so just accept that Mrs seat works mine doesn't :-(

PS if working on the seats REMEMBER TO DISABLE THE SEAT BELT TENSIONERS !!!!!

Almost definitely I'd say it'll be a wire in the seat. The main culprits in my experience are:
  • the temperature sensor in line with the heating element on the base (the ends break off the wires to it)
The cables to the upper part that are flexed as the seat back goes back and forwards to let rear passengers in
After checking for presence of voltage where the wire comes out of the floor-- Check the resistance of the upper and lower elements separately. It should have a decent resistance and not be open circuit. Once you work out which, or both, are to blame you can have a go at repairing it.

Good luck
