Split and moved topic 480S 2.0 superwhite

Hello there!

On the auxiliary guage front, 4 pin plug into 6 pins is easy: just connect the plug to the outer 4 pins on the guage-I forget which side, if you've the right guage one side of four out of six will work!

Thanks. I went through all post about oil pressure gauge. What I need now is to browse a big box of all sorts of little pieces of 3 other v480s I managed to strip in the meantime. If no sensor is found, than I will be looking for a spare unit. Do you know by a chance if for 2.0 from 1994 I'd need a sensor with 4-pins or the old one (2 pins) will work as I read somewhere that volvo changed "two sensor solution" into one with 4-pins but I don't know if its true.

As far as I'm aware the Oil pressure Sensor there are two types.
A 1 wire type for cars without the aux gauges
And a 2 wire type for cars with them.

How many pins are on the back of the gauges? I have a 6 pin gauge running off a 4 pin plug. (Like Captain Slow has mentioned)
If the gauges are 4 pin and you have a 6 pin plug I don't think you can connect them without cutting and splicing the wires.
There are always ample warnings and there are always subtle signs,
And you would have seen them coming but we gave you too much time.

My 94 GT and 95 Celebration (both 2 litre) have 4 pin plugs/wiring and work with the 6 pin guage...no idea about other combinations though.

Slash is correct on the oil pressure sender/sensor. Easiest way to find a sensor is to get one from a turbo, same thread etc

Today I thought I found an adaptor but google said that BOSCH 0261231006 is a knock sensor:(
The deal about the 4pin plug and 6pin socket is clear to me.
My question are following:
- Is it the same, standard plug for 1- and 2- wire type sensor in the engine bay or do I need to wire this this by myself up?
- Do i need to remove oil filter from turbo or the access is easier?
- BTW. What are the values of of the newer version of relay for auxiliary fog lights?

-follow the yellow or white (i forget which) wire is connected to the present oil sensor to the loom, where this disappears theres usually (always I think?) another unused wire (yellow or white, opposite to the first) wrapped up in tape, this is the other wire to connect to your new sender alongside the original wire.
-No.

nowynowy this thread as you see it now has been split and moved.

May I respectfully remind forum members that the diary topic is just that specific technical questions and answers should be put in another thread as appropriate.

I am aware that we do not strictly follow the rules regarding the diary threads but this really should have been in a separate thread.

We are such a helpful community and your responses to help a newbie are much appreciated.

Sure Glasgowjim, thanks Capt. Slow. I sourced the sensor with an adapter from old turbo today. It took me two hours with different tools to demolish engine bay (incl. removing alternator:)) to figure out that it was enough to unscrew the whole thing by hand.

Hi CaptainSnow,
To the existing sensor orange wire is now connected. On the same loom but ca.10 cm above I found a yellow one unused/ free ie. with no connector or whatsoever. Could it be the one i' m looking for? My second question: will i loose oil from the engine when changing sensors ( sensor is at the same height as filter so i don't know if it would be better to replace it while changing oil )?

Hi nowynowy & all,
I've just fitted these gauges & the sender about 4 weeks ago :D . The yellow wire with no connector coming from the loom near the alternator is the one you want. The sender unit can easily be fitted without removing the oil filter, no oil will leak out.
I had to extend the wire a few inches (I only had green wire though  ) & sort out some connectors to fit the sender as I didn't have the female plug to fit. Works great :hopping:

Cheers,
Dave

Yes it does. It won't do any harm though. I got it wrong first time. Simply switch off, swap the wires & all will be good :D
