Outside Temp Sensor Problem

Post by M69OOE » Thu Oct 10, 2013 8:01 pm

I've got the old girl out of the garage and back onto the road again (she's been laid up for a few months) but something has gone wrong with the outside temperature sensor.

Image

Since I live in Lancashire, and not the Arctic Circle (though it is a bit parky up here this week) I know it isn't minus 40 degrees outside.

Is it possible that this is the reason the engine is running rich / fast too? It won't idle at below 1300 revs, even after a long run...

Any ideas what I do to rectify the problem?? :(

I belive that you're seeing the temperature that the infocentre gives when it has no signal. Possibly sensor/connection failure? The sensor is behind the Volvo badge on the front grille.

The external temperature sensor has no effect on the running of your car and as Capt slow has said the sensor is dead repalcement is simple and inexpensive as a second hand unit costs only £13 including UK postage ;)

Outside Temp Sensor Problem

Ha Ha, wil do - but before I do, I wonder if you can point me at the unit 'behind the grille'? I had a good look earlier on, but I'm blowed if I could see the offending item...

Do you have any pics?

Cheers

Martin

Personally, I don't have any pictures. Not sure I can say anything more helpful than the sensor literally is the backside of the centre of the volvo badge (not the one on the nosecone!) Not sure that you'll be able to see it any other way than going underneath the car and looking forward to the back of the grille
