dead speedo

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

dead speedo

Post by doingitsideways » Mon Sep 02, 2013 10:45 pm

Hi all.

Well, it seems I've managed to kill my speedo.

I gave the engine bay a bit of a spring clean with my favourite pound shop cleaner of choice, gave it a rinse with water from a kettle (i.e not doused with the hose) and now my speedo has died.

No signal to info centre either.

The car in question is a 460 Turbo Auto, but has the same running gear as a 480.

So, is the speedo sensor so fragile that even a little bit of water kills it immediately?!

This was a couple of days ago now, so would have thought it would have dried out by now.

Thanks,

Steve :hopping:

The speedo sensor is a sealed plastic unit so no the water should not have damaged it .

Is it dead altogether now then? If it doesn't move at all may be the speed sensor.....but if it moves a bit might be something wrong inside the instrument cluster

No signal at all to the cluster.

I.e no instant MPG reading, odometer had stopped and no needle movement, not even a twitch :(
