Battery clamp?

Battery clamp?

Post by MichaelL » Thu Aug 08, 2013 11:31 am

Hi guys, I bought david's red celebration the other week and just getting round to sorting some minor issues out...

The car doesnt have a battery clamp and the battery is loose in tray. Although it is surrounded so wont go anywhere, im worried about the cables getting pulled/damaged and if the battery jumps up it could short on the bonnet.

So has anyone got a battery clamp, or could anyone be so kind as to send me a picture of one (in place) so I could even make one?

Cheers!

Michael

Aha, welcome to the forum!

Can't really help with parts, think battery clamps were often removed to fit bigger batteries in?

there are 2 types of battery clamp depending on whter you have an
air con car or a non air con car

should have the spare for one or other or at least the more awkward to fabricate bit.

You can just see the edge of mine in the photo below....

Image

A piece of plate with a bolt through both it and the battery tray, you push the battery over to the passenger side as far as it will go then fit the clamp/plate, which bites onto the lip around the bottom of the battery...that might be a bit confusing...

Here is one from a Passat with a useful handle on it:

OK good stuff. I think that Volvo have done some standardising on the battery sizes.....my local dealer quoted the same battery for a 1993 480, a 1992 460 and a 1999 V70R.....that's the one you can see in the picture, can't remember the amps off hand
