Offside pop up wont

Offside pop up wont

Post by SteveR » Wed Jun 19, 2013 4:19 pm

Been driving around with pop up manually raised as its a pain to keep doing it so now must get it fixed.
The headlight has been slow to rise ever since I owned the car.
I have seen threads talking about relays but is there a quick diagnostic route to determine whther I have a motor problem or something else?
Ironically I have two spare motors for nearside (LH), one on complet unit, but nothing on RH. The Volvo parts manual shows motors are handed - anyone know if I can maramalise a lh one into a RH one?
TIA

Many thanks Jim - I will dismantle one to start with on the basis that this is the most likely problem.

Stop !

step 1 check by turning the thumb wheel round to make sure the motor is not seized.

step 2 take one of your spare motors and disconnect the nonfunctional motor then plug the lead into your "spare motor" make sure you jam / push /hold down the bonnet catch microswitch then with the ignition on trun the popups on and off . If the spare motor is not working and you know that it is ok then it is not the motor that is at fault and now your search begins ;)

Many thanks. :D
I have raised / lowered several times but gave up doing that as I find it painful due to teh combination of cramping hand and twisting in the limited space in front of the washer tub.
I will start off tomorrow trying out the spare motor.
Once again many thanks for timely advice.

Forgot to post that the job went fine. Many thanks Jim. I tested the spare motor first. Access was not good due to w/w tank but moved that to help also removed apron.
