Post by faust54 » Tue Jun 11, 2013 5:18 pm

Hello, I'm new here so I ask for a little tolerance.

I have a problem with the speedometer stopped the show and does not want to load or kilometers, but the information panel works ...

I need some advice on repairs.

Thank you Paul

If you do a search of the forum then you'll find plenty of similar topics which may give pointers.

Does your infocentre give mpg/avg speed readings?

means the instrument binnacle is not getting a speed signal.

could be as simple as the multiplug connecting loom to binnacle being loose. could be speed sensor/connections down the way ect

Ok. So throw on removing indicators disconnect connectors, disassemble, clean it and try to engage ... when it then I will not go and try some speed sensor on the gearbox? Complete in the worst case soldered circuit board in the speedometer?

I'd tend to try connections before speed sensor which is difficult to access I believe

Speed sensor is expensive as volvo almost doubled the price at the last price review. The turbo engine is a pig to try and change the sensor but the other engines are quite straightforward to do.

When I last changed the sensor on the turbo it took me over an hour and a half and I gave up in total frustration. Went and took the dogs for a walk had a cup of tea went back out and changed the sensor in just under 15 minutes.

I was doing this from underneath the car as there is no way to do it from the top on a turbo. The NA engines can be worked on from the top and it is just a slow business but be warned DISCONNECT the BATTERY FIRST

Even such a stupid question, how to look and where you will see the speed sensor?

This, I disconnected the battery, the fact can not happen, I par car repaired at home, but the V480 is a total mystery to me ...

Read this thread...

http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/v ... 24&t=18749

scroll down and look for photographs with the title speed sensor

you will see the speed sensor with a hex key on the support holding it in place.
