Central door locking

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Central door locking

Post by glasgowjim » Mon Jun 18, 2012 7:09 pm

This thread came about from a pm conversation I had with another forum member.....

Does your 480 lock centrally from the drivers door only or the drivers AND passenger door.

my daughters 1996 celeb drivers side only
my 1992 ES drivers side only

Can you add your car to the thread ?

It would help solve another 480 electrical mystery

My 1995 celeb only drivers door wouldn't mind remote central locking
To stop me closing my keys in the boot when the doors are locked
Is it possible to fit one from a 440 any one

Only known/had ones that lock centrally from the drivers side, but my first, 1990 turbo auto, had a retro fit sigma remote locking thing and would lock you in (both sides) when you started the engine. Maybe if there is inconsistencies there may have been some thing fitted and then removed or switched off? Other two; celebration (172/480) and 1994 turbo, both, only from drivers side.
Had a Turbo, then got a celebration, then had to go back to Turbo!!!

With the key, from the drivers door both doors are locked (there is an electrical motor in the passenger door). From the passenger door, just the passenger door is locked. However the windows can be closed not just from the drivers door lock but also from the passenger door lock.

Inside, when the drivers door is locked, just the drivers door is locked.

Mine centrally locks from the driver's door only ('96 Celebration)

I'll admit it was me who sparked this off, it just puzzled me how when using the key in the passenger door, the motor operates, making me think that there was a motor in the driver's door which was faulty.

Thanks all,

Steve :hopping:

Hammers can't fix a 480!!!

I actually once made it work on both sides by:

* installing a motor in the driver side door (because if I'm not mistaken (remember correctly) there is by default no motor in the driver side door)
* adjusting the motor in the passenger door (adding the switches inside the motor)
* pulling a bunch of wires.

it was fun... probably will do it again in my current GT-Turbo

1993 2 litre

drivers door does both, passenger only does passenger door. yep and I am sure there is a motor on both doors but I am not taking the trim off to confirm!

as an aside if you tinker with the boot lock (I can't rmember why it was off) it can take a bit of lock/unlock combo to reset teh alarm whoops!!!
