Pop-up's, pop up, but only 1 goes back down :-|

I am looking for some advice on a little problem i have with my 480.

A while ago, i was asked to jump start a friends car due to a flat battery; as i got in my 480 Celebration i started it up and put the lights on because it was dark. When i switched the lights on, the lights came up half way and several fuses blew. After replacing the said fuses, everything was working as normal until i realised that my lights would come up but only the nearside would go back down.

I have checked the fuses over and over again to no avail and even swapped the relay. I have purchased a new pop up motor but was just wondering if anybody might know what it is before i replace the motor because it is quite a big job.

Any advise would be appreciated

Hi shane

first thing to do is to take the popup (tall) relay out and bridge the connections this will make the popup go up and down. If it only makes it work for half the cycle then you will know. If the popup goes through the whole cycle then there is nothing wrong with your motor. It is too late tonight to let you know the connections but they are marked on the outside of the relay.

let us know of your progress and we can help out. Oh make sure your dlrs are functioning correctly before you star messing around with the popup.

He meant DRL's --> Daytime Running Lamps - the 21W/4W duplo bulb inside the indicator unit.

I've just replaced the DRL/indicator lenses for two brand new ones the bulbs both work as they should do, but will check that they are the correct wattage.... bright then slightly dimmer when the lights are switched on, unless there's something ive missed ??? I've never had a problem with them before is there anything important i should know about DRL's common faults etc........

DRL: yep bright, then dim when you switch on the popups. As mentioned they must be 21W/4W with the offset pins (like 160 degrees apart, not 180). While youre checking you may as well try to clean the contacts on the holder as they can corrode and cause problems.

Once you've done that it should rule out the DRL's

The lenses i got were new and came with new bulb holders, What i'll do is get a couple of new bulbs for them and see how i get on with those Just to clarify that the DRL's are not the same as stop and tail bulbs are they ?

DRl s can but not always cause complications with the popups eg read the 5th of JUL post in my diary thread to see the devastion that they can cause !!!! (http://volvo-480-europe.org/forum/viewt ... &start=100 )
