Re: Starting problems -- PLEASE HELP !!
the maf connected to the rubber tube coming from the air filter housing.
you can check easily if its work, or not:
- start the engine.
- unplug the cable going into the maf.
- if the idle starts moving, or strugling, or something happens, then it works. (after a few seconds, the computer will correct the changes, so the idle will be normal again without maf connected.)
- if nothing happens, there is a problem.
remember, it is a simple check, only shows if the maf is dead, or not. Obviously, if you dont have smooth idle, you wont see if there is a change.
By the way, I asked around about your problem, but unfortunately I did not hear any new advices, just the ones wich were in the topic already. :/ Sorry.

Starting problems
Hello mates,
Still having very strange starting problems..
After a lot of fiddling this is the situation -- car will start when cold (but needs alot of cranking!) but will not start when warm ! Once the temperature sensor is unplugged it starts immediately but has a veryyy rough idle - plug it in again and runs very smooth. Even if the engine is completely cold, if the temperature sensor is unplugged it needs far less cranking to start. Once its running, its idles and runs very good!
Ignition is always OK, problem is fueling (only while starting -- once its running everything is OK)
Temperature sensor brand new, original BOSCH.
Wiring to & fro temperature sensor all correct.
Brand new MAF.
Brand new starter motor.
Any thoughts please ???

there are 2 relays clipped up underneath the dashboard in the lhd car as you sit at drivers seat it is up to the left of your instrument panel. Lie with head in drivers footwell and shine up , one is ignition relay the other the fuel pump relay.
go to 480 club europe home page select downloads then down load the fuse box relays by either myself / esta best do both as there is an ignition relay there as well as the 2 underneath , oh if you have aircon there could well be 3 relays.

or even better look at this thread as I have a photograph of the location posted dated Sun 14th Aug 2011
