Yikes, headlights, day running, immobiliser, alarm

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Yikes, headlights, day running, immobiliser, alarm

Post by SteveR » Sun Aug 09, 2009 1:05 pm

My GT is upset cos it heard me talk about the scrappage scheme. I now have headlights permanently raised, no day running lights at all, first switch on the lighting gives me sidelights except front offside, no headlights when selected, but headlights and main beams when the flasher is used.
Prior to this I had intermittent alarms which seem to be set off by door or tailgate switch - the m/sw on teh tailgate seems to work ok and lights up the tailgate light but I have not tested the proximity switches and dont know how to anyway.
Th immobiliser just seems to be confused by the whole issue - not allowing the car to start etc etc.
Any ideas guys and gals? CEM, Solenoids, relays?
I am working through the fusebox at present - bulbs replaced in day running lights. I may have to tear out my remaining hair.

Ok so - fuses checked - 3 blown one 7.7 and two 15s. Only things now are door warning light and the offside sidelight - day running is ok so could be a bulb issue even if it is a new bulb.
Hey ho at least car is ok for day driving - just cant lock it without disconencting teh battery which is only a 15s job anyway.
Next task then is to find out why I have a door warning light when they are all closed.

check the blue relay for the DRL problems. Can cause silly things when it starts to go.

I'm a duh - haven't opened one for a while and forgotten one was blue.
I will give it a good 'rattle'. Also driving today I have lost an offside indicator so bulb checking tomorrow - along with house hunting - not a good time to be troubleshooting.

also disconnect all the earth straps on the car and clean all rust off, and use some sandpaper etc on the chassis contact area , this has solved problems many times for and was the advice of our mised GURU RPruen RICHMOD MAN
140mph for £175 just test the brakes

Car now sold, and saved from the scrappage scheme, but before that the gremlins had gone. I found the wires at the top of the tail gate in poor condition with one broken. This was rejoined and self parking problem was cured - also alarm does not go off now although the door insecure light shows. Fuses have also been stable.
