REV COUNTER FEED - AM I CORRECT ?

Post by B18FT - LOVER » Fri May 01, 2009 6:29 am

Hi all

Got a 480 turbo, got the loom out and I'm trying to work out the rev counter signal wire..

I think it goes from pin number one on the fuel ecu to pin number 17 on the boost ecu, there is a little take off wire jumped onto pin number one on the ignition ecu which goes to a red connector block..

I followed the diagrams and it just says to instrument panel, is it the correct rev counter wire, I'm sure i read a previous post on this site about some one checking the rev counter wire between 2 ecu's for a signal ?

Any help would be fab, my eyes are going funny reading the wiring diagrams lol

it should tell you in the wiring diagrams everything you need to know.go to the downloads on this site if you havent already.the non turbo has a tach wire from ecu to green plug on dash.i found this when looking for a shift light signal.i would assume the turbo setup would have one.it is a square wave pulse train of 12v everytime the spark is triggered.
just read you first question.yes the wire to the dash sounds right.try and see if it goes to the rev counter.i tested it with a handheld scope.

Yeah i was correct..

Goes from pin 1 one one ecu to pin 17 on the other, it then has a take off wire which drives the tacho..

I popped my dash out and joined that wire on and job done, it works a treat..

Just for the record, it's not marked out on the diagram just has the loop wire from the 2 ecus no take off..

A coil fed tacho is pretty standard on other cars also. If the ecu connector isn't working out for you. It sends a signal every time it sparks so its the obvious place to conect.

i agree wth pol, i cut the wire off the renault 5 coil and put it on the volvo coil, job done.

Not all cars can have a rev counter taken off the coil, the clio is one of them i think..

From stock the volvo get's its rev counter feed from the ecu so i took that wire and joined it to my tacho, it works fine now any how so should be all good...
