Rear Fogs Mystery...or not so mysterious...

Hi I dont want to seem daft ;) but is it normal for only one of the rear fogs to be working? Both my ES and GT only have only the one working, so is there something wrong, or was it just given two rear fogs to make it look even?

Cheers :)

They both work on early versions of 480. After some year, it was not mandatory for the second one to work. For rest of europe, the left side rear fog was operational and I think for UK it is the right side that works?

Don't know for sure though...

Only one light should work it was made that way so retards could not switch on both rear lights to mimic the brake lights and cause accidents. :D

Definitely just the offside one that should be working on UK models.

Early ones had both working then in about 1991 they changed it to save costs as it was no longer a legal requirement to have two, only one either on the centre or on the drivers side.

Ah i see! Well at least they kept the lights even (eg one on each side) i hate un-symmetrical things lol-the off side number plates on Alfa Romeos are one of the things that i really hate about them...anyway, i digress...

Cheers for that guys ;)

Could the pretend one be made to work?

Yeah, as Jim said ... just run 2 core cable from the working offside fog lamp to the dummy using some cable ties ... hey presto!

I've done it with no problems. ;)

Lol, on all the previous MOT's that came with the GT there was an advisory for 'only 1 foglight functioning'. Luckily our local MOT station has seen enough 480's over the years to know better!

Got a full working spare foglight of a scrapper in the sparesbin if you want Esta.

Stu.

Now in fairness I've only ever done this to wankers who want to sit right up my arse, however with only one foglight it's easier to change to second and bring the clutch up slowly, of course when matey behind craps himself you can then fly off very quickly. Usually it stops them tailgating.

As for MOT advisory, the MOT tester is a muppet, legally you need only one. However, the reason I understand they don't have two is because strong red lights over a prolonged period actually damage the eye's ability to see red. Thus they took the second one off cars to minimise any impact from using fog lights. Not to mention, why on earth would you need two? Have you ever sat behind some f* with one on, it's hardly subtle even in thick fog. However, Volvo unlike so many manufacturers at least put in a dummy or keep the cars symetrical. The Fucus pisses me off the most on this, especially with it's useless reverse light no bugger can ever see! As far as I am concerned it should be a legal requirment to have two reverse lights, so you can tell if a car is reversing regardless of what side of the car you are on.

I agree with you 100% on that! I have had this discussion before, who says which side is more important to have the light on? For example, if you are reversing left no one the right can see and vice versa, its dangerous and dumb!!!
