Alternator question

Post by coyote1980 » Sat Jan 10, 2004 3:34 pm

Question, a 480 requires a 14V / 70 Amps alternator. In my old 480 I had a 12V / 60 Amps alternator which I sold to a guy. Didn't know it was weaker, never caused me troubles. Can it cause harm in any way, like not charging the battery good enough or anything?

Amp/h means amperes per hour, this means i guess the alternator will take longer to charge the battery fully.
Don't know specific about the specs, but I know the airco types have (need) a alternator with higer prestations.
luck,
JPF

OK, thanx, bought it back from the guy I sold it to as he really wanted a 70 Amps alternator. My dealer confirmed that 70 Amps is only necessary when you're going to turn on airco and have a heavy amplifier in your car...

Hi! Concerning the alternator in some cases 14V is not enough..I ve seen some mechanics changing the diameter of the boal bearing of the alternator in order to succeed higher voltage through higher turnings per minute..dont know if thats good...any opinions???

I had a 75 Amp alternator in my car due to my ICE

If i could have got hold of a 110 Amp one i would have installed that.

The standard is 55 or 60 i think, cant remember of the top of my head.

According to our specs-pages the 480 had a 70 A alternator standard... Don't have lots of ICE so that 110 A alternator is too much for mine, would just use too much petrol ;)
