Dull rear-lights

Dull rear-lights

Post by kingrichy » Thu Jan 08, 2004 6:27 pm

Today i`ve been working on my rear-lights.
They started to look a dull.
Now i`ve cleaned them with some plastic-polish.
Looks as good as new now.

Yeah, but for how long will it hold? I'be know several people who have tried to renew their taillights, and who thought they had found the holygrail, until a week later the lights brgin to fade again ... succes though, I hope someone has reall found a solution now

have someone tried to varnish them? There must be some lacquer who stays on plastic. of course after a polish has been made.
That's what i'm going to do. but this is the least important thing for my car right now.

The Germans are convinced that using colorless varnish does the trick, the same spraypaint you use to cover metallic paint after you have painted, should be UV-resistant (UV causes the plastic to deteriorate).

Well I use some liquid polisher from the HEMA (dutch department store) from time to time aswell as black shoepolish.
Does the trick with me :hopping:
Mind you the clusters weren't dull when I bought my cheese wedge back in november 2000. If you're curious what they look like just take a look in the members fotogallery.

Well I think you'll find the majority of people on this forum would kill for lights as dark as yours - mine are also pretty black, so you hardly see they are red when they aren't on -this is a good thing and is how they are meant to be - so be happy, or if you prefer whiter/greyer ones, I'm sure there's a long list of users who would do you a swap.

All this reminds me I need to take these spare rears I have to DBS so he can start planning the new clusters he mentioned a month or so ago... :)

had my clusters painted with clear laquer years ago . worked fine.

But you need to degrease it properly. Mind you, polish is a kind of grease No paint can get a hold on that.
luck,
