Hi all

1 question is there a standard startup procedure for a 480 es as the headgaskets done but it wont give me any life and not even a noise to say its trying????

bat is good


gonna check starter/earths(which im dure are fine):)and fault codes read 1.1.1 fine??

as far as i know it has no immoboliser??just standard thatch alarm.

plz help as ive paid(mate) but still have no running car:)

could this happen if the bat is disconnected ,as it was for several months.

do i need to reprogram anything??(excuse me its my first 480 so be patient)

oh whats the lightbulb symbol on the dash??

it also shows water light but its all topped up but i think its a loose connection somewhere.

any help plz:)

water light? You mean the screen wash light?

You got fuel?
You got air?
you got spark?

HT leads on?

Do you have Voltage on Battery?

Turn the head light's On and see in they produce a good ilumination.

For your describe i think that you dont have voltage on battery.

Hi all

im off to try getting life into her with a fresh battery.

gonna check coil connections/starter(taking a hammer with me:)/batt cables from top to bottom/the megafuse/(anyone now how much i can get one for????
plus if i can use a starter from any other type volvo like say a 440??plus coil(which from a search of the threads i can use a 440 coil:)

my lights on the dash are very dim with the fuel gauge being almost invisable.

lights didnt work yestarday untill the bonnet was shut and was dimish(bloody bonnet sensor):)

all i get is no noise when key is turned not even a click or any injection startup(fuel pump maybe).

gonna have a good batttery and jump cables just to be sure:)and a boot full of tools in the espace im using (loada room for junk in that motor but pedals are tooooooo close together damn frenches:):):)no offence

good espace though and shifts well but almost as bad with electrics as the 480(NEVER BUY A QUADRA)haynes dont do quadra:)

any other tips would be great.

sparks are new champion plugs(yummy)£7

ht leads are ok
gotta check crank sensor:)

anyone shed some light on this flywheel thing to get the oil light out(with sparks out)and turn it over???(haynes advise)

whats this 11v thing about the bat does that mean she likes a full wack battery??

im hoping if it has an immoboliser its not gonna bugger me as i dont know how to shut it off(i assumed it was off as alarm was deactiviated???

the fault codes for pos5 didnt blink it just showed a really dim light for a sec and nothing but 1.1.1on ignition (pos 1)

sorry for rant its a busy morning :)

May you verify (for example on any interior roof light) the voltage?

Some years ago i have a problem like that but not with Volvo's, and the problem is that the batt connector dont make good connection with the battery cables that are too oxidated and i have a fisical connection between the good batt and the low Batt but the power don't pass because oxidated connector's.

Hi all

roof light works fine but cannot test cos my multimeter died before i could use it:(

tried jumpstart and full battery and no go i even tried push jumping but didnt get much run up but it did smoke and smells of fuel.

fuses are fine and i get a clunk from the solenoid so all seems ok-ish
but still no go(earths are ok)

gonna tow it to my house in the morning so gonna get on it after that.

Hi all

this is the prob i know it has an alarm which is factory fit but dont have any idea if it has an immoboliser?

i open the doors ok and arm/disarm the alarm but i have no idea if the immo is on:(

the alarm light blinks as it should

the fault codes were:port 2 for 1sec 1.1.1 port 5 for 1sec 1.1.1
so its fine there.

fuses are all fine

i get a solenoid click and nothing so ive got parts on way but not getting for 14days:(

got starter coming and coil and spare water bottle for screen wash even though its probably a tube prob thus when i put water in it runs straight out
as i was trying to get the warning light out as something to do while in a state of FUCKING CAR GO WILL YOU mood:)


plus some kids have scuffed my rear bumper and now i need to sort that after i eventually get her alive(i hope)then gotta mot her and tax so money is abit tight this time of year but im pushing on.

gonna check coil and starter connections closer 2morrow then tow it home.

which i was hoping i didnt have to do:)damn

is there a little fob on your keyring that would disarm an immobiliser or 2nd alarm? if not then you prob dont have one. the factory volvo alarm doesnt have an immobiliser and if it doesnt disarm when you try to start the car you will know all about it!

one more thing you can rule out!

Hi all

towed it home and had a look,i found the starter ok which looks rusty and crap
and also while attempting to jump i could smell fuel so i parked her up and found the fuel tube infront of the inline filter was broke and had had a sheath put over using a very crap replacement which leaked like a cow

so at the mo i have to wait before i can try the starter test using the jump postive cable to the starter (in nuetral :)

the only thing ive noticed is that the clock displays 60 after saying ok whats that mean(60mg)??

otherwise its still dead:(gotta find some fuel tubing now i may chuck in another inline fuel filter to shorten the tubing needs and aid in keepping it clean.

turn the key and it say ok then turns into a 60 (thats info from the infocentre selector?

Hi all

YIPPIE!!!!!!!! she runs again!!!!

after the christmas rush i had the chance to check the starter for the infamous connector that gets loose,well guess what i pushed the orange connector over the spade connector and bang she is alive(the orange connector block looked on but looks are deceiving it wasnt even touching metal.

turned her over and away i was:):)and it purrs

only a couple of worries and one is the boiling noise the engine makes(water pipes etc)fizzing,bubbling is this anything to do with having no thermostat cos its shut down now till i get hold of one and some decent coolant liquid(any recomendations???

also the starter has a screech after firing over is it normal to sound like crap or would that be just wear?

oh what setting on info selector does oil temp etc(which tick from left to right)???plz:)

anyone know how much a halogen bulb for info centre costs from volvo or anyother place???i can see the fuel etc but the speedo etc has no backlight so at night im bugger`d:)

Ther are two bulbs, one is halogen but the other looks different. Heard they are about £10. May be best to get info centre from ebay cos you get lots of other bulbs as well.

aralmeida im so chuffed that the car is going but unfortunatly its still got niggly bits needed doing but some easyier than others

got a seatbelt stalk(temp)to get trough mot:)

info centre is still not lighting up:(but i can see the digits faintly which is dependant on which way you can bend your neck :lol:

three tyres are borderline but im sticking it through mot anyway(wanna see what else out of eye shot maybe shot)

i seemed to have lost the water rushing noise by itself :?

just as long as it doesnt bugger anything if its still there by driving(airblock)if its there.

the drivers door now opens from inside:)disconnected stalk in the door

Just that I would post mine onto this thread instead of starting a new one...subject is the same: my car refused to start! (again!) :(

I said "again", because it happened 2 weeks ago and i thought it's the battery, so I replaced it with a new one. Car started straight away, had it run for a couple of short trips, then left unused for a week.

Now it just wouldn't start again: central lock dead, immobiliser LED doesnt flash, and of course, engine won't start

So appears to me it's not actually a dead battery, but rather the alternator is failing to charge up. Before I replace the alternator though (and about how much would it cost from garage!?), could it still possibly be some bad wiring connections, or fuse (Megafuse!??, where is it?) that should be checked first?
