Light doesn't work, I got indicators and high beam if holded.

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

After a half day of raining (dunno if it's important), finished with the work, no moisture in the car. Auto started just fine, but sadly no light, instrument cluster light works, roof light works. High beam works, but only if I'm holding. No fog light, no daylight, no pop up, indicators works fine, hazard light works like a charm.

I hope it's not the CEM, costs nearly 500 euro on eBay.

Bless you guys, for every hint and tip.

Have you checked,

1. Headlight fuse
2. Rotary light switch contacts
3. Headlight relay
4. Headlight earthing point

Thanks!

Fuses are intact
Rotary working fine, I got 12v under the relay.

Sad, but I don't know how to prove a relay, :( Can you tell me about that?

Under the relay I got everywhere my 12v, Pop up, Headlights and Ignition.

Later I am going to try to make some pictures.

Relay can be tested on the bench.

Apply power to the coil terminals (usually 85 and 86). See if the relay clicks/ operates.
If it doesn't then it needs replacing.
If it does, then you'll need to test that the switched circuits are making contact with a multimeter, or another 12v power supply and lightbulb.
If they do not make contact, you may be able to strip the outer cover off the relay and clean the switched contacts with some emery cloth or contact cleaner.

Cheers, sad but I don't have anything to power it external. Can I somehow bypass, for a short time, to test the lights?

Yes It can be bypassed.
Depends on which relay it is as to how you bypass it.
You'd be looking to place a jumper cable between the terminals for the switched contacts.

You have a 12v supply, it's your cars battery 😉

Alternatively you could test for resistive continuity between the terminals of the coil on the relay, but this will only prove that the coil is ok, not that the relay works.

Thanks a lot, its works with the car battery? Thanks.
So I bypassed it, 30-87 (if I remember) Light pops up, so motor works, light relay bypassed, and I got light. So it must be the relay, can i buy it still, or it will be hunting for red October?

If it's bypassed, I can't control with the light switch, correct?

There's a 0 too much on that amount concerning the CEM-III (1991 cars and later). I've got several of them and can get hold of several more.
(CEM-00/-01 are harder to come by because they fail more often and still not THAT expensive!)

But this is definitely not a CEM issue. CEM controls, among others, the flasher (i.e. blinking of the indicators - which indicators will blink is controlled by the switch), driving lights and the dome light and they work. I will try and dive into the schematics tonight, it's probably the light switch itself. Check if it's plugged in properly.

If it's the large (double size) relay I think they're pretty hard to get hold of however there are a few cars being broken at the moment in the UK, check out the 480 UK Facebook page.

If it's a standard relay I'm sure any motor factors will have one in stock.

PLEASE check the light switch FIRST before swapping relays and start hunting for unobtainium.

The relays are probably fine, they just aren't actuated.

The double relay isn't a standard part, however, it can be opened and then you will find two relays soldered on a board. These can be replaced, replacement relays cost a few quid each at Conrad or another electronics parts supllier.
