Diagnostic system

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Diagnostic system

Post by 111of480 » Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:06 pm

I have found and printed off a set of '400 Series' error codes via a previous listing but they don't quite match the sockets on my car.
I have codes for sockets 1; 2; 3; 6 & 7 but the car has sockets 2; 3; 5 & 7.
Does anyone have codes for socket 5 please?

The codes I got from the forum were from the 480 main pages. There was no 5 there. Maybe it is because it is not applicable?? :dunno:

As far as I know #5 is not wired up in any of the 400 serie's. Check the socket to verify, you can see if there's a copper contact in the socket.

edit, I was wrong!:
I found a German manual which states that socket#5 is the CEM III diagnose. It's got 4 functions, actuated bij pressing the small button 1,2,3 or 4 times with 2seconds interval.
1=check the stored faults
2=control of the incoming signals
3=actuates every CEM controlled function in a certain order
4=control of the outgoing signals
To clear the memory press the button 5 seconds till LED lights and then again 5 seconds to clear.
Here you can find the (German) manual. You can find the codes on (PDF) page 14

Socket 5 is definitely wired up on my car and I am delighted that it is for something really useful.
Unfortunately I probably need an error code to say "CEM is fried!"

hi. Thanks for the reply! I've seen both those pages before, but my problem is that when I push the button, no matter which socket I put the pin in, it gives me no LED light.
Previously, none of the sockets worked except the ABS part, which gave me a clean 1-1-1. Now with a new ECU (read: used) none are working.. :(
I guess I should figure out the errors the old fashioned way, but I got so much with this car that it would really ease my troubles if I had gotten it to work..

Measure voltage between tip of the probe and mass should give 10v with contact on. No voltage take of the connector to the box and measure voltage between the black/grey wire and mass should be 12v. No voltage check wiring to the fuse.
Then measure resistance between the brown wire and mass should be max.0.5ohm. If both measures are correct diagn. box is dead.
To check the wiring between diagn. box and ecu put the probe in socket 2, contact on and measure voltage between connector from the ecu #1 and #12 should be 10v, then press button on the diagn. box voltage should change to 0v. No voltage at all check wiring between #12 from ecu to socket 2 on diagnostic box.
This is translated from the dutch fenix fuel system manual, so hope your 480 is equiped with that one!

Checked the diagnostic box and the voltage was 10 volts neween the tip and the earth. :D

however the box has only got sockets 2/3/5/7 conneced .
no surprise over socket 6 since I ont have cruise control.
but definatly dont have socket 1 wired up

socket 2 works as does 3 and 7 but damn me socket 3 the ABs is dead and thats the one I need. Oh well back to the drawing board
