yes this is the idle valve, but for only a few es (non turbo engines, of the ealiest types. I think this is a very old valve. I am not sure this is the one you need.

Mine on the '88 turbo has two way working valve, this one is spring return, also one hose mount is under an angle. Modern ones haven't.

refer to the downloadable partscatalogue at dragon's.

BTW: I bought a new one, gave a bosch dealer the number printed on it and with a 20% discount had to pay only129 euro's. I expect this is way cheaper than a volvo one (which is exactly the same)

I donot advice to buy second hand valves, as they have the same problems. : getting clogged and stuck in time.

Aldough it works noticable faster than the now twice reconditioned old one, it did not solve my problem much of the stalling after start
luck,
JPF

It is the valve that is on the car. Do you think it may have been replaced with an old type valve?

sorry volvofox, i think you have it the wrong way around for the ES's.
The d plate, and 3 g plates, i used had the valve where the pipes go through in a straight line, across the bottom of the valve, and the 2H reg ones (1991) my 1992 440 and my mums g plate turbo (so early) have the type in the picture. :?
Mat, you would have a job to swap the two without creating some wierd sketchy hosing routing,a s its in a totally different place on the older ones, (near to the distributor) yours came from the front of the engine, yes?

Yep, front of the engine.

I have cleaned it replaced it and will test it soon. :) Seems okay from start, but the true test will be when it gets hot in traffic etc. :)

the info that sticked on me written here I have from a thing issued by another english, don't know the name no more (holmes?).

I can immangine the spring return, here pictured has less contacts, as the others are returned electrically.

I have the "modern" one in my car, sitting near the dipstick, but saw the same ones also on this '85 es i worked on.(near distributer, pointing down) Possable upgraded dough (maybe both my and my friends old car. )

I saw a post here on this site, with a link on types of idle valves. refer to this... Please can the one who posted this subject I mean clear this all ?
luck,
JPF
