Hi Dave.
As recomended by a few members here, try Magnecour. I gave them a call and just had a chat with a tech person about the benefits of the various leads on the engine/mod's planned etc, and he was really really helpful.
They are just a specialist leads company, they don't make anything else so they know their stuff. They do alot of performance leads for one off engines/conversions etc, so i think they would be able to sort you out with something if you tell them about your project.
Hope that helps!

you should maybe consult a doctor about this onehaz@nocturnal_development wrote:whats wrong with std's?

@Haz Std leads are complete pants compared to Magnecor. And these have a 10 year guarantee.
No comparison performance wise! They really are that good!

i agree in theory they are better, but has there been a few members that have all had this improvement?
the coil still only produces the same power, the plugs still transfer the spark at the same rate.
surely if you measured the spark from the coil, after the king lead, at the dizzy and also at the plug that would show some proof??

I couldnt agree more Haz.
My experience though recently showed something interesting.
I re-fitted my Magnecors after being made aware by them that they had a 10 year guarantee!
Anyway, off came the new Bougicord leads and went to Rich Mann's Collection.
2 hours later, took off down the road in my Turbus forgetting Id fitted them.I instantly thought no "thats a bit better",but "fuuuuucckkkkiiiiinnnn 'eeelllll"
God knows how they work better mate, but that was proof enough for me.
Not the most scientific method albeit a reassuring one!

i had a similar experience when me dizzy was dirty, gave it a clean and the car went great - cos the fault was removed.
the reason i say this is cos there may have been a fault proir to the change, loose lead, perished rubber, corroded contacts etc.
i presume you put the old leads back on to verify the difference?
did you also try brand new leads and test the difference?

Would there be any gains if you uprate the coil?

I asked Rich about this and hoped for a cheap increase in performance.
The verdict?
Nah man!

i wouldn't think an uprated coil would increse performance, but may help performance for uprated engines at higher revs when the spark is more likely to blow out.
there are dual coil systems but i guess that's to ensure a good spark, but i'm not sure if they are wasted spark systems?

I guess it's the same idea as with Magnecore - but i've heard many good things about Magnecore so I'd put my money there.
The standard coils do the job nicely, being computer controlled ignition and all, but standard leads have issues. The contacts and construction of the lead is done to do a job, but no real effort has been made to reduce the resistance or capacitance to such high tension voltages which will make a vast difference in the performance of the spark, especially at higher frequencies (read revs)
Logic dictates that a lead that offers less resistance to the spark on it's path from coil to spark-plug tip is a very good thing.
That was my two cents for the day.
Thankyou for listening.

If anyone buys a set of blue Magnecors and isnt impressed I will buy them off you at the price you paid for them.
I would go for the KV 85 10mm ones at the moment cos Dawn that works there said we could have a set of them discounted at £46

Could try a Group-A coil they only cost £49.95 from www.burtonpower.com they produce a stronger more reliable charge, used on lots of high power car.Brasco wrote:Would there be any gains if you uprate the coil?
But Haz is right standard leads are fine as long as they are in good condition, flashy leads are a bit of a false economy, even with the 10 year warrenty.

I dont understand how they can be a false economy Robin. They last 10 years and only cost you the £45 once.
Bougicord standard leads cost £25 and last a year to 18 months, doing 10k a year from my findings.

coil
A better (sport) coil won't help cause it is electronically regulated by the computer.
That is why you have a max rpm and actually a low performance of coil.
Some people are working on it to see if some altering could improve some things.
