ARE there a forged pistons and rods for B18FT?

All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

ARE there a forged pistons and rods for B18FT?

Post by mancolog » Fri Oct 21, 2005 5:13 am

Hi guys,

I have a clio with F3p and I turbocharged it with 10 psi boost. Does any body know if there are a forged piston that fits to b18ft which is the same block as mine? And does anybody know about the Crank signal?

I have a feeling that some of the components in the b18ft are forged as standard, but i don't know if this goes as far as the pistons. The man to ask about this kinda thing is on a long-term afk at the moment. :(

Rich is around still just having problems getting back on the net. I'm in regular contact and this topic seems to cover mine and rich's latest project...

As the engine is based on a diesel engine, the bottom end is more than capable around 300 bhp with no modification as i understand it. The pistons and head however are the weak spot. Forged pistons are gonna cost a mint so we're taking a different root.

We've machined the pistons to lower the compression ratio slightly and balanced them. We're currently finishing off the heads... opening up the ports etc. Next stop ceramic treatment allowing up to 2600'C very briefly....

Haven't decided what's happening with head gasket yet. The standard one is pretty strong.

We're contemplating maybe doing short runs of pistons & heads if we get any interest and the prototypes work. It' s quite expensive but the benefits and results should be awesome. :)
Regards, Edd.

the rsi engine

Post by mancolog » Tue Nov 08, 2005 1:43 am

yes it is an rsi engine. So b18ft rods would be a good modigfication for my engine since they are forged? is that what I am understanding?

by the way ( overboost) How can I get that gasket from you? Im in USA for couple months. By the way there are a lot of companys that makes forged piston below 600$ I think its not that bad ...
I want to know the crank signal to get a advanced engine menagement system... they are asking me. is it 60-2 or 32-2 or what ever it is if somebody know please let me know.

You need to look at www.fastchip.nl for your ECU problems. Most engines B18E,EP,FT and early B20F) use 40 teeth flywheel. Later B20F and B18FT (from 1994) use an other flywheel with different number of teeth. (I dont know it )
