Engine change

Post by pfigueroa » Wed Dec 10, 2003 3:56 pm

A Spanish owner asks in a forum what engines of renault they might put in a 480, since the engine of his 1,7 turbo has died and does not find any original. Does someone know something on this?

i know that they used the renault 19 engines/boxes etc in the 440s, possibly the 480s. but engines put in renaults never last as long as the engines put in volvos, even tho they r the same.
i know this from experience in a volvo garage and renault garage.
I want a 480 :(

they must fit, or can be made to fit. We have had 2 people here who made a 1,7turbo to swap the 1.4 turbo of a renault 5.

the shortblock must be the same. the gear box also similar.

appart from maybe something meccanical to adapt, the can be trouble with the volvo sensors/electronics in the engine and gear box.

I would rather investigate if its possible to repair the broken 480 engine with scrap renault parts.

whats broken on this 480 engine ?
luck,
JPF

Hi to all!!!

I agree with Volvofox...fix the one which is already in, dont swap it with the "simple" 1,7 from a renault 19...they are not strong enough...dont forget that the 400 series engines specially the b18ft is patched from the volvo and the turbo from the porsche....

fix the one that is already in.......

luck......

Thank you for your answers. Already they have been transcribed to the unluky propietary. It seems to be that his problem is of the cilinders (can´t explain it in English). Thanks for contribute to saving a new life. Regards.

Don't do it. At the moment i'm building a Volvo Engine into a Renault 5. It fits. thats it!.

I'l have to rewire the car. Fix diferent things like the exhast, fix the lights, computers etc etc etc.

If you don't know what your doing and don't have a lot of time and patient stop thinking about it.

The reasan i picked the Volvo engine was because its beter than the Renault.
