leaking sump gasket

Post by argian » Sun Nov 30, 2003 11:46 pm

Hi everyone :D I will start with the really bad news. The other day i took a trip and drove using the reserve segment. Then i filled her up in a gas station i have never used before.Result? The dirt that passed through the injectors clogged them and totally scr..ed the lamda sensor which was only 4 months old.And thats the gas quality we have in greece :badmood: 230Euros cost because the gas is like sh..t.Pardon my language.Anyway now every second refill i use STP injector cleaner..The thing i am concerned is the leak in the sump gasket. Is it due to natural wear(10 years) or could the fact that i put accidentaly 200ml more oil (its not above the max mark) have something to do with it?Do i have to replace the gasket or is there any gasket sealant that i can use as the leak is so small that after many miles there is no decrease in the oil dipstic level? It is so small that it doesn't even drop to the road.I saw it when we put the car on ramps for service.Cheers.

If you are not actually losing large amounts of oil, I would leave it.
My 480 Isn't exactly shiny underneath either .
As long as you still have good oil pressure you should be fine.
Pitty about your injectors. Hope they stay clean now!

I think you need a new washer for your stump plug. It's made of copper and is very cheap. :)

But don't replace this until your next oil change! You'll lose all your oil.

He should fix it now incase the leak gets worse. Just unscrew and plug the hole with your mates finger and replace, easy.

I have changed the oil drain plug 3 months ago.You think that the oil leak is from there?I didn't see any oil around there.

Do you mean you bought a new: sump plug, gasket, washer or changed the oil?
It's always a good idea to replace the sump-plug washer every oil change.

leaking sump gasket ?

Post by TheXile » Mon Dec 01, 2003 9:59 pm

I thought my sump was seeping oil since I bought it nearly 3 years ago, but let it be because there was only a few drops on the driveway. It turned out that it was the inner drive shaft seal that was split, and now it's fixed and I have a clean driveway.
Didn't cost much ( £80 ish ).
Check it out anyway.
Good luck.
Gedda
ps, unlucky with the fuel; I always run the tank down to reserve. Maybe I shouldn't.

Hi
If it is the sumpsealing thhan the only cure is to renew the sumpsealing.
This is a kind of a silicone sealing and hardens out after 10 or more years.
You can buy the sealing from Volvo or Renault.
But first be sure it is this sealing.
And that it is not one off the sealingrings form the cranckshaft forn or rear
or oilpunp etc.
