The only solution I could find was to fit the old type engine mount. If there is another solution, then that would be good.
Fitting the old type to the new subframe is hard to do, and makes removing the engine 2 times as hard afterwards
If there is another way, then I'm interested.

I have the beginnings of an idea that involves a bit of M20 studding and a very large bush from a low speed high torque gearbox.
If I had an old subframe at the time, then I would go for that. Unfortunatly my 'J' plate spares car seems to have mostly new type parts.

I have a couple of sachets of that in my electronics box (and no I don't mean John Innes number 1 )
That WOULD be messy indeed

The old type mount is 20mm shorter than the new type. The mounting area is the same, but the old type has holes in the center line of the subframe, where as the new type are diagonal. The hole centers are the same
Here is a picture of the plate, sorry it's very fuzzy
You can just about make out the two sets of holes. An yes it's a very funny shape, because it has to fit round the power steering rack and pipework.

The only difference with the subframes is between auto and manual.
MANUAL
You have 2 types grey and black.
Grey = Old type (mk1)
Black = New type (mk2)
The only difference between these two is the mounting holes for the rear engine mount. I did have pic side by side before my hard drive went TU.
I have converted to the old type subrame. This is an easy task. If however you do this you must remember to change the bracket on the engine.
I have had the bracket on my mk2 snap. I do believe so has fnord. This can be replace by the new and improved mk3 bracket which has been reinforced.
Well that is my 2 pence worth use it as you wish
