Anyone know the difference between these two throttle cables? B18E‎

All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

Anyone know the difference between these two throttle cables? B18E‎

Post by jamescarruthers » Tue Feb 18, 2020 4:26 pm

Does anyone know what the difference between the two different RHD B18E throttle cables that would have been available?

3459142 is for B18E, F CH 541799 -->
3459141 is for B18E, F CH --> 541798
the change is somewhere in 1989 model year‎

My car is a 1987 model with chassis number 507247 so *should* have 3459141 installed. This would include the full-throttle switch which tells the CEM to change the wipers from intermittent to full speed and switch off the air conditioning (if I had it!).

Does anyone know if the only difference is just the deletion of the full-throttle switch on the later cars‎? In which case the cable would fit my car and just not have the switch.

Or is it something ‎more important like the length of the cable or how it attaches to the throttle body. For example, B18E has dual plenum Webber oval shaped intake and later cars have round intake? In which case this would not fit my car.

Or something else if anyone knows?‎

Yes, it's the one without the throttle switch. Most cars have lost that functionality because the cable with switch became unavailable very early.

Cheers Brinkie. I've bought it. Yes, my full-throttle connector is bypassed as it broke long ago! This will address the broken part through the bulkhead!‎

That is correct.
On these early cables, the switch/contact was spring loaded but the plastic used to break and went open circuit. This caused some problems.
I have repaired this cable in order to mantain the full throttle function, on a 87ES. Just replacing the plastic sleeve for a more rugged one, was the solution

Thanks JP. I'll have a look to see if I can also restore this function when the cable is out. ‎

You're welcome James!
I found the best way to restore this cable was to simply cut the accelerator end (inside the black plastic end), make a new sleeve out of pvc on a lathe, crimp a new end, put it all back together and adjust in place. There is a white nylon type of pvc. I've used that one :wink:
