Typical!

less than 2 weeks before the meet and the heater matrix is leaking. It is mild but mist on the windscreen together with the sweet smell of coolant when "On" gave the game away.

Now, I am running out of time (I am not Croesus either) to have this sorted before heading West so is there any reason not to try K-Seal and see if it works?

No mate, don't do it! It is likely gum up lots of little coolant passages and your radiator forever and ever.

Matrix is cheapish. Haven't ever fitted one so can't comment if it's easy or hard. Probably somewhere inbetween.

looks like mine on the 1993 two litre have, and seems similar to the old one on the 1988 1700 version, but I don't have air-con

not too pricey, tried a local auto merchant , they might save you shipping?

PITA to swap out, a couple of dodges will help and don't bother with one of the mounts.

it also helps if you have an oppo to help guide the pipes through the opening when re-installing :-)

in the interim just join the hoses with 15mm copper elbow from plumbers merchants, i't summer!!!

Checked the parts book, it's the same whether you have aircon or not, 3462359 is for chassis nos 552636 onwards

Just to echo the above:

NO k-Seal

Do it once, do it right.

A bodge is still a bodge even in a fancy tin

Ha

Did the oil change today and noticed that this pipe was pretty much completely undone. Seems to have cured the 500rpm idle.
