engine mounts?

Post by timrosser » Tue May 01, 2018 9:20 am

HI there,

As anyone come up with an idea of how to replace worn 480 engine mounts with something non-standard? Assuming that there are no new supply's left anywhere!

Best

Tim

Have you tried Scandix? I got a brand new rear engine mount off of there

That is a shame! I just checked too, guess I got very lucky when I ordered them on there! :(

Have you tried the usual suspects?

You can try Febi Bilstein 22645 though they seem to be out of stock also.

Edit. Found a supplier who claims to have the engine mount in stock: http://www.skscarparts.co.uk/engine-mou ... -febi.html

I went through this recently (see my thread here). If the mount you need looks like mine (the same as the one Brinkie posted) then it is indeed discontinued and virtually impossible to find, so unfortunately that's basically the going rate if you need it in a hurry, if they actually have it in stock. I spoke to numerous suppliers and even got as far as placing orders before they came back and told me that they actually didn't have it - a common trick it seems is for a supplier to take your money and then order the part from the manufacturer if it's not something they get asked for often and thus don't hold in stock.

I'm looking into getting some for a more reasonable price direct from a manufacturer, but the lead times are on a scale of months so not much use if you need it in a hurry.

Have you considered poly mounts?

I'm not saying they are worth getting, only an option?

I have had a look at the other thread, I reckon a basic mount could be a substitute to rebuild a worn one.

The rover V8 engine mounts for example are handy. just a thought as they are about £4 each. The are used for quite a few substitutes in the classic rover world.

I assume you mean 'bodge it yersel' ?

I think the Volvo ones act 'vertically' but those on 'older' cars used the compliant material in a sort of 'shear' / diagonal action, so you'd need fairly soft rubber?

I have one old one in garage that has the mounting stud cut off with gas axe so I'll maybe see about drilling it out, not dumping it

Btw, Jaster, I would certainly be interested in a new batch- I'll pm you if I sort my problem, but otherwise please assume I'm in.

Alan, what are polly mounts? Are they some sort of generic damper?

Best

ok, still not 100% confirmed whether I'll be able to get them yet but if it turns out to be possible I'll put you down for one.

I've just bought you a second hand one off Orlando. Even he doesn't have new ones, so it will be necessary to talk to Febi Bilstein to start new production.

Poly Urethane :-)

I'll have a look at mine to see about making some new

there is 'DIY' PU kits available so you could make a mould in silicone then pour the PU into the mould?

According to the parts book both engines use 3466003. Auto gearboxes I believe have a different one. You can download the parts book from the main club website - it's vey useful.

Hello, I have been looking for a replacement as well, what to do you think about this part:
p.n. :
fiat 9635939880
citroen 184492
Image

it's listed as having
lenght [mm]: 150
widht [mm]: 92
height [mm]: 115

which is fairly close to the Volvo one

here someone took the time to measure an original one https://www.drive2.ru/l/7525464/

while for the front one maybe this could be a good pair

That is fantastic, I may try this. Any idea if the Hydraulic damper also has a citoren counterpart? ;-)
