Throttle body

Post by frenchfries » Thu Apr 05, 2018 11:03 am

Hi all

Skip has finally started showing signs of erratic idling. Unfortunately the pics from this post viewtopic.php?f=24&t=15569 are no longer visible.

I would happily have a go at cleaning the throttle housing and and idle valve first but without pics I don't know where to start. For once I am free at the week end AND it should not rain. If you have anything you can email, just pm me and I will send you my email address.

Merci in advance :)

Throttle body is easy to clean, but maybe the switch that lives underneath it . . . . any oil/fluid in the throttle body ends up in the idle switch.

different switches fitted to different models, maybe insulation iffy or one of the wires broken within?

I had an issue with the 1700 when it would 'set off' when warm as the idle speed would go to 'cold setting' and this meant you were travelling at around 40mph even when you didn't want o be doing 40!!

tuned out a wee wire was not where it should be!!

Funny enough it has not repeated the symptoms so washed the Juke instead :)

It will happen again so should make some time tomorrow to have a look around. Hopefully it will be simple fix/clean :)

intermittent faults are always most difficult to track down and fix cos youre not sure if you fixed it or it went away on its own , and wasn't really what you thought was causing the real problem :?

I'm still not sure I've fixed he iffy speedo, now hard wired direct to the sensor, bypassing the dashboard!!!

Hi all

I was very happy when the idling speed on Skip sort of "adjusted itself" during the Meet from a permanent 1000rpm to a more decent 800+. However, with the aircon on it drops to 600 or below (2 notches below 1000 on the counter) and this is really too low, the dash shakes so much I can actually see 3 of those!

Please tell me there is a simple screw to play with somewhere. I don't mean a screw on the dashboard before some clever cog suggests it :)

probably a setting buried within the ECU :-( (and by setting probably 'firmware/software whatever it's called)
but you might be able to add a wee stop onto the throttle cable? ours is OK until the heater fan or rad fan turns on and it drops about 100rpm, just into the 'vibration' mode :(
