Fuel tank

Post by frenchfries » Mon Sep 25, 2017 8:57 pm

Hi all

I refuelled Skip at the week end. It was down to the last 2 green bars and the red range alert had just come on but I only managed to put 50 and a bit litres.

Knowing Volvo, are they a bit cautious when it comes to the capacity once on Reserve?

Aha

Makes sense. Definitely the 60litres tank.

Oh God, I guess I should not mention the fact that I have a users manual upstairs. How embarrassing

You can check the calibration of the tank. Next time you fill up to the maximum, put the ignition on whilst holding the grey button without the hole down. Move the dial to vertical (fuel level) you'll see a report of how many litres the car thinks you have in.

And adjustment can be done by prising the little round plug out between the grey buttons. Insert a very thin Philips screwdriver to adjust the little potentiometer in there.

Theoretically a pin should get the little plug bit out but I've had some that I couldn't get out without slightly disassembling the switch assy!

I think the official line isn't to set the tank to the actual size or else there'd be no reserve.

Haynes has the figure in from what I remember, it's something like 3 or 5 litres less that the 47L or 60L tank

for info I check it when tank is empty (nearly) and then confirm that it agrees when i add 40litres, TBH fairly accurate most of the time.

PS when the range gets to 11 iles the next step is ' - - - ' , which I took as being 'you're own your own from here pal' :-)
