Engine Type Query

Post by ohdearme » Fri Feb 17, 2017 1:42 pm

I am a bit confused about the type of engine I have in my 1991 480 ES Auto the tag in the engines shows:
"Model 480 B 18 EP, FT"
Sorry for sounding like a complete idiot but what does this mean, when I google it I get conflicting information.
Cheers

Where are you reading the data from? As I understand it, their two different (but similar) engines.
The B18 EP is 78Kw @ 5580rpm
The B18 FT is 88Kw @ 5400rpm

It's typed exactly the same as my text but on a green sticker along with lots of other codes. Hopefully these photo links will work

OK, that worked, but where's that label? Can you see anything on the engine plate? It's normally next to the dipstick on the block

Ok I have updated the folder. The green stickers have the engine code I am querying. The only other plate or sticker I can find is the riveted plate.
That's all I have to go on.
Cheers

Skandix to the rescue :)

https://www.skandix.de/en/vehicle-selec ... &x=75&y=12

It's a 1990 B18FP with auto box. It does NOT have a B18F-engine, that is a very rare engine (same setup as the turbo engine, but without the turbo) producing only 95 PS and runs on low-octane fuel (RON 91, a.k.a. "Benzin unverbleit" in Germany).

Hmmm that's odd! The VIN decoder on this site doesn't have the B18FP as an option.
I wonder if Daniel could change this?

"18" is states as B18F-106... he must mean FP.
