Turbo cooling

Post by m616tls » Sat Nov 26, 2016 10:02 am

Hi,

Have just acquired a white 480 turbo '92 in poor body state, been left off the road for 9 yrs and only done 65k. The turbo cooling unit doesn't appear to be operating. My other turbo cooling unit whines for a while, presumably pumping water around. Any ideas???

Cheers

I think you are referring to the auxiliary water pump. This pumps the coolant around the engine to prevent hot spots. It does not cool the turbo however.

If you search on here, I'm sure you'll find a picture of it. I think it is in-line with‎ a coolant pipe.

Its a good idea to have it working, but I'd put it down your list of things to fix on the car if it's been off the road for 9 years.

Well done on trying to save one by the way!‎

Thanks James

Good info., I thought it cooled the turbo, because it sounded like it came from around the turbo area. I was told, incorrectly, that it cooled the turbo.

Yes, this is going to be a massive job James. Window motors, sunroof motor and or cables or whatever makes it operate. The motor operates to open but doesn't operate to close. The driver's side pop up needs replacing. About 1000 on the bodywork. Various plastic light lenses need replacing............. it goes on.

I reckon about 2000 minimum. Goes really well. The mechanics seem to be ok.

Cheers I love 'em
